El Niño 2015 cease – El Monster Stories not
Dr. Arnd Bernaerts

Since current El Niño strengths culminated in December 2015 (HERE-1), stories to make the most out of it do not. Back in last August  The Telegraph  wrote that the “so-called "Godzilla El Nino" could bring .a freezing winter in Britain… colder than average winters in northern Europe HERE-2  (telegraph.co.uk, 14 August 2015). It came the other way around. Already the December became the mildest on record (HERE-3), and January and February 2016 following closely. Despite this remarkable failure El Niño conditions are still ‘scandalized’.

More about: „What initiates El Niños ?”

Six months ago we raised the thematic about the impact of El Nino or Naval War on a winter in Europe (HERE-4). Our point was explained as follows:

A current strong El Niño offers to provide more clarification of an open question since the winter 1939/40, 1940/41 and 1941/42, and test a claim Prof. Stephan Brönnimann and Colleagues  (NATURE-2004) that these winters had been caused by a prolonged El Nino. 75 years ago Europe suddenly faced the coldest winter since the end of the Little Ice Age. Over more than 100 years the winters had becoming warmer and warmer, but ended when World War II commenced. Three subsequent extreme winters took Europe into an icy grip that marked the change to a global cooling period for more than 30 years
Worst, science is not even willing to investigate the event thoroughly.

After more than a dozen posts and analysis it is time to say that Stefan Brönnimann’s claim is unfounded, not more than mere guessing, and Prof. Brönnimann and Colleagues should admit it.

The current situation compared – as far as possible with the WWII conditions – are as follows:

El Niño 2015 is ceasing

Late April 2016 – Too cold North- and Baltic Sea. The mechanism works!

Cold again this weekend  // 18 04 2016   // MetOff

After a cool few days, temperatures will recover through the middle part of this week, before turning cooler again by the weekend.

The cool spell we saw during the weekend just gone, and the colder conditions expected at the end of this week, are linked to the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event that occurred early last month. We are seeing high pressure to the north and west of the UK, resulting in a chilly northerly air flow – a type of weather pattern often called ‘blocking’ by meteorologists.

“Wintershock”  // 24. 04. 2016 // NoTrickZone, extract

The online SVZ daily here warns “Winterschock: In Germany the snow is back. Ice cold polar air delivers snowfall and storms.

German weekly, Stern, writes at its online newsite: “Experts even advise putting the winter tires back on” and warns of icy streets in the lowlands by Monday morning! The Stern clip calls the snow for this time of year “unusual”.

February 2016 is well on the way with above average temperatures

Adolf Hitler’s personal responsibility, for weather and climate modification in the winter 1939/40 and beyond, was never raised. Neither of his deputy and Minister of Aviation, Field Marshal Hermann Goering (see excerpts from his speech on 16. March 1940 in Berlin - enlarge images). That is irresponsible and a great failure of Meteorology and Climatology.

ADD. I: There is no link between
El Niño and January 1940
"Right Prof. Stefan Brönnimann”?

That is one of the questions to start the series in last October  HERE.

El Niño still runs strong in the Pacific showing worldwide some typical weather pattern. As far as Europe is mentioned the  forecast expects temperature above average in the first half period of winter, and lower towards winter’s end.

What a big difference between January 1039 and January 2016, not only a little but tremendously. There might be some small similarities, for example in the United States  (see HERE) and the US-January-1940-Temp-Map, or three cold days in Siedlce last week from 03-05 January.  The Polish cold record was more than 20°C lower, and the cold remained, and got even worst.

Today the situation look very different. Forecasts expect temperature well above average. Until now this winter proves that any claim the war winter 1939/40 has anything to do is completely unfounded. Further Reading

QUESTION: ”Prof. Stefan Brönnimann is it not high time to get things right and to apologize for the grand mistake made a decade ago with your Letter to Nature (NATURE |VOL 431|21 OCTOBER 2004)”
